If you spent the summer between the club and the Gulf, the four-mile stretch of Old 41 between the Bonita Bay gate and downtown quietly reorganized itself while you were away. A festival returned to the Promenade with a firm date. The Riverside Park calendar filled in through New Year's. A downtown restaurant took home a regional award, another one broke ground, and a third announced a 2027 opening. None of this replaces what you already have inside the gate. It changes what a Saturday afternoon can look like when you feel like driving five minutes.
Here is the shape of that shift, with the dates worth putting on a calendar now.
Fall 2026, outside the gate, on paper
• Date | What | Where
• Oct 23–31 | Happy Haunts Stroll | Downtown Bonita Springs
• Oct 24–25 | Bonita Springs Fall Art Festival, 10–4 | Promenade at Bonita Bay
• Oct 31, 5–8 pm | Trick or Treat Downtown | Downtown Bonita Springs
• Nov 2, 6–8 pm | Bonita Springs Concert Band season opener | Riverside Park
• Nov 11, 11 am | Veterans Day Ceremony | Riverside Park
• Nov 22, 4–8 pm | 423 Praise | Riverside Park
• Dec 1 – Jan 1 | Holiday Stroll | Downtown Bonita Springs
That is a season worth of programming, all of it free at the door, all within a short drive of the South Bay Drive gate.
The Fall Art Festival lands on the Promenade
The Bonita Springs Fall Art Festival will be held October 24 and 25, 2026, at the Promenade at Bonita Bay, with Friday afternoon and evening setup, and Saturday and Sunday hours of 10 to 4. The Promenade is the shopping deck most Bonita Bay residents already treat as an extension of the community. Setting a juried art show inside its open-air loop for two full days pulls foot traffic into a place you can walk to from your car in three minutes.
The rules are strict enough to keep the quality tight. All work shown must be original work by the artist's hand, work made from commercial molds, kits, patterns or copyrighted designs is not permitted, and any commercially made embellishments must be subordinate to the handcrafted work. That matters if you have watched other Florida festivals drift toward giclée reproductions and imported goods. This one still runs like a fine-craft show.
Practical read for a resident: park once, treat DeRomo's or the Center Bar as your intermission stop, and you have a two-day event that costs nothing but your time. The Mediterranean-style center features open-air walkways, greenery and waterfalls, with shops including Evelyn & Arthur, Paddle & Palm, Coastal Outfitters and Tara Grinna Swimwear, and dining that includes Roy's Restaurant, DeRomo's Gourmet Market & Restaurant and Molino's Ristorante.
Riverside Park has a real fall calendar again
Old 41's downtown core has spent several years rebuilding its programming after storm interruptions. The 2026 fall schedule reads like a return to form.
• Oct 31, 5 to 8 pm. Trick or Treat Downtown, followed by the tail end of the Happy Haunts Stroll immersive experience.
• Nov 2, 6 to 8 pm. The Bonita Springs Concert Band opens its season at Riverside Park. The band performs six concerts a year, monthly from November through April, and admission is free. Lawn chairs and a light layer are the only ask.
• Nov 11, 11 am. Veterans Day Ceremony at Riverside Park.
• Nov 22, 4 to 8 pm. 423 Praise, a music evening at the park.
• Dec 1 through Jan 1. Holiday Stroll along the downtown corridor.
The band is the anchor. Its programming mixes classical, pop, Broadway, film soundtrack, rock, jazz, and patriotic marches curated around the seasons. Six concerts a year, once a month, at a walkable outdoor venue seven minutes from your driveway, is the kind of standing appointment that is easy to fold into a season.
The Old 41 dining shift you missed if you were gone all summer
This is the part of the corridor that changed the most in the past eighteen months, and it is the part that a resident who has not been paying attention will most notice.
Start with the recognition. The Bohemian, an eclectic bar and restaurant downtown serving small plates, seafood and cocktails, won Gulfshore's 2026 Best Date Night Restaurant. That is a regional award decided over a field that includes Naples and Fort Myers, given to a place you can reach from the Bonita Bay gate in about ten minutes.
Then the new arrival. Brandon and Caitlin Schewe, who have been steadily redefining downtown Bonita Springs over the past six years, opened Canary Club as their third venture, where three-day-fermented sourdough becomes both pizza and pillowy pita, paired with wood-fired mezze that chart their own course through Middle Eastern traditions. The dining room is finished in floor-to-ceiling coral paint, ornately framed mirrors and layered patterned rugs across polished cement floors. It is not a chain expansion. It is a local operator's third room, and Gulfshore Life named it among Southwest Florida's Best New Restaurants for 2026.
Then the build-out. Kyle Moran's Moran Kennedy group is running two adjacent projects along Old 41 that are visible from the sidewalk right now.
• Project Telephone. Introduced in 2023 by Kyle Moran, the project transforms two underutilized parcels along Old 41 into restaurant spaces, with one building next to Downtown Coffee and Wine Company incorporating a vacant telecommunications building into its design, which is where the project's name comes from. Project Telephone has officially broken ground and is currently under construction, marketed by Patrick Frailey of IPC of Naples.
• HoneyHole Downtown. Billed as a live-music-driven restaurant with a dynamic atmosphere for locals and visitors alike, HoneyHole Downtown is expected to open in early 2027, adding to the growing dining and entertainment options along Old 41.
• SugarShack, still. The original Moran project that started this cluster, and the reason a resident of the area recently told a WINK News reporter, "There was no place to hang out, have fun. Now there are all kinds of places, Chartreuse, SugarShack, it's awesome. I love it."
The through-line matters more than any single opening. The projects reflect a development philosophy led by Kyle Moran and Moran Kennedy that prioritizes placemaking over one-off projects, and they fit alongside other Moran Kennedy initiatives, including Project Roundabout, where Kyle's newest concept HoneyHole will soon come to life. That is not five unrelated restaurants opening near each other. It is a single operator building a downtown block by design.
What this actually changes for someone living behind the gate
The Bonita Bay proposition has never been about needing anything outside the gate. The club, the marina, Backwater Jack's, the beach park, the trails on the East side, the marketplaces of Estero to the north and Mercato to the south. That still stands.
What is different in fall 2026 is the density of a specific kind of programming inside a ten-minute drive. Public, dated, walkable, free at the door, and now anchored by an operator with a coherent plan for the downtown corridor. Twelve months ago, the honest answer to "what is worth doing on Old 41 on a Saturday night" was DeRomo's or Roy's at the Promenade. That is no longer the whole answer.
For residents who host out-of-town family in November and December, that matters in a small but real way. The Fall Art Festival, the Holiday Stroll, a Concert Band evening, dinner at The Bohemian, breakfast at Wolfman Bakery, an afternoon at DeRomo's Saturday farmers market at the Promenade. That is a two-day itinerary you can hand a guest without leaving the immediate area.
For residents thinking further out, the placemaking work along Old 41 is the kind of thing that shows up in resale conversations a few years from now. When a downtown compresses from "one or two places" to "a block of them," the surrounding neighborhoods tend to feel that. It does not change the case for Bonita Bay. It rounds it out.
The most useful thing to do with the calendar above is to pick two or three dates now, put them in your phone, and let the fall pull you out of the gate a few times before the season proper starts. The four-mile drive has never been shorter.
If you want a quiet conversation about how the corridor's evolution fits into your longer-term thinking about the community, that is exactly the kind of long-view discussion Free State Florida Homes is built for. Let's Connect.
