How do you actually know when the season turns at Bonita Bay Marina? Not by the calendar. Not by the weather, either, since a cool snap in October can just as easily give way to another humid week. The real signals are smaller than that, and most people who drive past the marina every week never notice them until they've already appeared.
Right now, in late September, Backwater Jack's is still running its posted summer schedule: Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a happy hour from 3 to 6 that knocks two dollars off wine by the glass, draft beer, and house liquor. That schedule went into effect May 7. Nothing about the sign out front will tell you when that changes back. But a few other things will, and once you know what they are, reading the season becomes a lot easier than checking a hostess line for updated hours.
Backwater Jack's Seasonal Specials
When the compressed three-day week fills back out, Backwater Jack's rotation includes Wednesday barbecue, Thursday turkey dinner, Friday fish fry, and Saturday prime rib. The specials board is another place to check for seasonal changes at Bonita Bay.
Ownership at Bonita Bay Marina
The marina was created and is owned by a group of Bonita Bay resident investors. Backwater Jack's sits at the marina.
Jack's Pack is the marina's $500-plus-tax annual membership. Its listed benefits include 10 percent off food and beverage, including in-home catering, a $150 beverage credit, 10 percent off the Ships Store, 2 percent off marine gas, and the ability to reserve a table and request a seating area through the VIP portal instead of calling the same day like a walk-in. The posted 2026 rate sheet notes that marina storage already includes Jack's Pack membership.
The same rate sheet lists dry storage for a boat 20 feet and under at $596 a month and wet storage at $667. For a 30-foot boat, the rates are roughly $891 dry and $961 wet.
Bonita Bay's water access is organized under a different name at each layer. The Bonita Bay Community Association, which every homeowner belongs to automatically, manages the three community parks: Estero Bay Park in the northwest corner, with its 800-foot boardwalk through the mangroves to a private pier; Riverwalk Park along the Imperial River, with its own boat ramp, canoe storage, and a fitness course strung along the water; and Spring Creek Park on the northern edge, with a kayak and canoe launch and a quieter, slower stretch of shoreline. None of those depend on the marina's hours at all. The marina itself is the separate, investor-owned piece. Bonita Bay Club, with its golf and tennis, is separate again and entirely optional. Three different structures, three different funding models, all inside the same gate.
What to Watch For Instead of a Calendar
If you're trying to read the season without calling the Ships Store every week, here's where the real signals show up.
• Signal | What Changes | Where to Look
• Backwater Jack's specials board | Wednesday BBQ, Thursday turkey, Friday fish fry, and Saturday prime rib return to the rotation | Backwater Jack's dining room
• Ships Store bait case | Live shrimp comes back into stock for the season that runs October through April | Bonita Bay Marina Ships Store
• Sweetwater's membership roster | A new, limited Anglers Club tier opens alongside the existing boat club fleet | Sweetwater Lifestyles, based at the marina
The bait case is worth paying closer attention to than it usually gets. Live shrimp isn't a year-round stock item at the Ships Store. It comes back specifically for the October-through-April window, which means as of this week it isn't on ice yet, but it will be within the next couple of weeks. For anyone planning a fall run after snook or redfish along the mangrove edges of Estero Bay, that's a more useful marker than a posted hours sign, and it lines up with the same slow-speed, seagrass-protected water that boaters here navigate on every trip out toward New Pass.
A New Way Into the Water Just Opened
The other change worth knowing about didn't come from the marina at all. Sweetwater Lifestyles, the boat club that operates out of Bonita Bay Marina, just added a limited-membership Anglers Club tier alongside its existing fleet access. Where the standard membership covers day cruising and sunset tours across a diverse fleet, the Anglers Club is built specifically around fishing: premium boats set up for it, orientation on local water from captains who fish it themselves, and membership numbers kept deliberately small.
The timing lines up well with everything else on this list: bait comes back into stock and the restaurant's rotation fills back out just as this new tier gives anglers another way to get on the water.
